"Sandoval's Run"

Developments

  • Sandoval's CVI broke down and was replaced by Dr. Belman.
  • Sandoval believes that Boone killed his wife Dee-Dee for the same reasons that Sandoval killed Boone's wofe in "Truth."
  • Before re-implantation, Sandoval yells "Damn you, Boone!" Afterward he begins wearing his wife's wedding ring on his little finger.
  • Sandoval freed Dee-Dee from the sanitarium, and the Liberation provided safe passage to a new life where she would be safe from the re-implanted Sandoval and the Taelons.

Backstory

Ronald Sandoval
  • Sandoval was an "eager supplicant" when the Taelons recruited him. Both he and his wife Dee-Dee believed in the Taelons. However, Dee-Dee was angry that her husband devoted himself so much to them.
  • After implantation, Sandoval saw Dee-Dee as a rival to the Taelons and had her committed and medicated at The Vandewater Institute in Restin, Virginia, where he subsequently placed other "clients" (see "Truth").
  • Beneath his CVI-motivated personality, Sandoval regrets his ordering of Kate Boone's murder (see "Truth"). He also hates the Taelons for taking away his humanity.
Da'an
  • While trying to talk Sandoval down from holding Da'an hostage, Boone reminds Sandoval that his job is to protect members of the Taelon Synod, implying that Da'an is a member of that ruling body. Da'an's membership in the Synod is never clearly stated during the season.
Julianne Belman
  • Dr. Belman has been working, unsuccessfully, to determine why the CVIs wear out and how to fix the problem.
The Taelons
  • Agenda on Earth
    • The Taelons apparently face a time constraint on Earth and wish their Implants to feel a "sense of urgency" about their service to the Companions.
    • After his reimplantation Sandoval tells Boone, "They need us as desperately as we need them. The fates of our two races are intertwined. Without them, we're doomed; without us, they're doomed. To destroy the Companions is to destroy ourselves."
  • Technology
    • CVI: Further symptoms of a CVI breakdown include headaches, bleeding ears and seizures (see "Avatar" and "Live Free or Die"). Dr. Belman has developed an anti-cyber virus that seeks out and kills a CVI without harming its host. She still has made no progress in determining why the CVI breaks down, and she informs Boone that the brain cannot survive without a CVI after it has adapted to one's presence. The earliest generation of CVIs contained a supplement of information about the Taelons and their mission on Earth.
    • Shuttle: The vehicle is equipped with a transponder and a radar jamming device.
