"Resurrection"

Development

  • Jonathan Doors announces to the world that he is alive and that there is an organized Liberation movement. He had intended to do so all along.
  • Zo’or, apparently another member of the Synod, temporarily replaces Da'an as the American Companion. He had until that point been residing somewhere off-world.
  • The ‘metal scarecrow’ from ”Float Like a Butterfly” is now housed in the headquarters.

Backstory

Ronald Sandoval
  • Sandoval apparently has paramilitary personnel (or at least highly militarized FBI agents) at his disposal.
Jonathan Doors
  • Doors claims that when he refused to take part in the experiments at Futurity Farm, the Taelons placed him on a ‘hit list.’ That is one reason he faked his own death.
  • Doors owns a satellite assembly plant in North Platte, Nebraska.
  • The Liberation leader states he will use “any means necessary to ensure the liberation of humanity.”
  • When Doors asks Dr. Belman how long she can stay, she places her hand on his shoulder in a way that might suggest more than a professional relationship between the two of them.
Da’an
  • Boone tells Da’an, “You have a deeper understanding of humanity.”
The Taelons
  • A Harris poll conducted after Doors’ television appearance shows an unprecedented 6 percent disapproval rating for the Taelons.
  • A Companion Headquarters is located in Madrid, Spain.
  • A joint Human-Taelon research facility is located in Singapore.
  • Agenda on Earth
    • Da’an: “You underestimate human resourcefulness and resolve. That is the prime reason for our journey here.”
    • Futurity Farm is outwardly an agricultural research center, a joint project of the Taelons, U.S. Department of Agriculture and Doors International. However, “controversial experiments” were being performed there at some prior time. Da’an describes them as “cooperative” and insists that those experimented on were “volunteers.”
    • When Boone tells Da’an he believes that the Taelon well-being serves the interests of humanity, Da’an replies, “In the long term that is certainly the case, I promise you.”
    • Da’an says to the Synod, “Our approach was based on the proposition that our needs might be better served by collaborating with this race rather than enslaving it.”
  • Attitudes and Beliefs
    • Da’an: “A pattern of trust is not broken on the basis of one event. Only the whole of one’s history is relevant to such a determination.”
    • Zo’or: “Taelons only respect a worthy adversary. Ordinary humans are not in that spectrum.”
  • Technology
    • CVI: Da’an says that even with the MI, “each Implant will interpret what is best for the Companions in his own way. You see, human determinations are not taken completely out of the equation.”
The Liberation
  • Liberation Headquarters is located 300 feet beneath St. Michael’s Church and shielded from detection by polymer alloy screens that read as organic on scanners. The church’s cornerstone was consecrated on July 22, 1789, the day the final draft of the Declaration of the Rights of Man was submitted to the French National Assembly.
  • Augur has been a Liberation member longer than Lili, although neither she nor Boone knew this.
  • The Liberation has branches in Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Miscellaneous
  • The Los Angeles Quakes and the London Royals are football teams . The World Bowl is the highlight of the football season and is watched around the world.
  • Anne Portnoy was designated CEO of Doors International after Jonathan Doors’ apparent death. She has full knowledge of the activities at Futurity Farm.
