"Miracle"

Backstory

William Boone
  • Boone’s favorite flavor of candy is lemon.
  • Boone says that Kate was killed “earlier this year.”
The Taelons
  • Quo’on is the leader of the Taelon Synod.
  • Ne’eg is the Taelons’ “foremost surgeon and scientist.”
  • Doors says “I’ve seen the Taelons’ hide their failures before,” and Sandoval refers to the “customary isolation procedures.”
  • The Church of the Companions, led by Rev. Travis Murray, has been operating for almost two years, broadcasting its services over the Internet. The church’s message is that the Taelons are messengers of God. Murray seems to have some personal connection to Da’an, for they speak together after the Julie Payton incident, and Da’an says “You have an instinct for this work.”
  • Agenda on Earth
    • The Taelons’ outward appearance could be an amalgam of various religious figures, or it could have inspired depictions of them. When Boone asks of the Taelons have been to Earth before, Da’an replies “The souls of our two species have a long history on many planes.”
  • Attitudes and Beliefs
    • Da’an: “As we see this universe, every being lives with no distinction between creator and created.”
    • Da’an: “You actually slaughter each other over questions of the spirit. It is different on every other planet.”
  • Psychology
    • Da’an says “this annihilation of self out of despair. No Taelon can become so alone.”
  • Technology
    • Sandoval says that he has seen the Taelons grow buildings.
    • The Taelon Limb Regeneration Project has been in the “experimental stages for some time.” Quo’on says that “the regeneration of their anatomy still poses our most difficult challenge.”
The Liberation
  • Doors and Marquette meet at the Flat Planet Café.
  • Marquette says that the Liberation has “done nothing to make a dent in the Taelons’ agenda.”
